If you’ve spent any time in Jeffreys Bay, you know the value of a vehicle that doesn’t mind a bit of salt air or the gravel roads of the Eastern Cape.
I’m listing my 2021 Jimny GLX, and while it’s hard to let “Elsa” go, a relocation means it’s time for a new owner to take the wheel.
The Technical Rundown
Before we get into the fun stuff, here are the hard facts:
- Model: 2021 Suzuki Jimny 1.5 GLX (3-Door Manual)
- Mileage: 135,000 km
- Price: R289,000 (Negotiable)
- Protection: Chassis professionally rubberised in 2024 to prevent salt-air corrosion; windows tinted.
- Upgrades: Fitted with Commercial-grade tyres. These are tougher than stock and built for much higher mileage.
- Condition: New vacuum solenoid (4WD is 100%); front window and minor body dings recently professionally repaired (R9,000).
- Real-World Efficiency: I average about 12.2 km per litre—superb for a real 4×4.
Why the Jimny?
For me, the attraction was simple: the Jimny is a real contender in the 4×4 space without costing you an arm and a leg. In a world of massive, overpriced SUVs, the Jimny is a superb performer that isn’t too heavy on juice, tyres, or maintenance.
It is a legendary off-road vehicle for a reason.
Built for the Baviaans (and Beyond)
Living in J-Bay, we have some of the country’s best adventure territory on our doorstep. This Jimny is the perfect companion for places like the Baviaanskloof.
Because it’s lightweight and features a proper low-range transfer case, it dances over obstacles that leave heavier rigs bogged down. Whether you’re navigating mountain water crossings or the rugged backcountry, the Jimny just puts its head down and goes.
The Verdict
This has been my daily driver for city and town use. It’s got a few “honest” quirks—the air-recirculation is currently fixed to the “recirculate” setting (ideal for keeping out dust and J-Bay salt air)—but it’s mechanically sound and ready for its next 100,000 km.
If you’re looking for a 4×4 that’s as happy in a grocery store parking lot as it is on a grade 3 trail, this is it.
