JBay Winter Fest 2017 fishing skins
JBay Winter Fest 2017 fishing skins.

Last year participants in the fishing contest stood the chance to win a Nissan NP200. Hopeful fishermen packed Kabeljouws beach in the hopes of bagging the big one.

This year, prizes include a cash total of R18,000, as well as fishing reels and other items.

And for those who want to visit their favourite fishing spot in style, Nissan and PSG are once again throwing a vehicle in the mix.

If you don’t try, you won’t stand a chance, so enter the fishing skins. You might drive away in a brand new vehicle.

JBay Winter Fest 2017 Funduro
JBay Winter Fest 2017 Funduro.

The best thing about the Funduro?

You don’t need a competitor license or club membership to compete.

Suit up, kick your bike to life and twist and jump your way through 15 kms of dirt.

You last had this much fun throwing mud at Sannie in the second grade.

Trail run

The Nutritech sponsored Endurade trail run is a two day, three stage event with a total distance of 60 kms.

All races start and end at the Winterfest Lower Point hub.

The three routes are spectator friendly, so wear your best shorts if you partake in this one.

Are you ready for the 2017 Winterfest Cold Water Classic
Are you ready for the 2017 Winterfest Cold Water Classic.

The JBay Winterfest Cold Water Classic has been bringing together ice bears and cold water swimmers for many years.

This year it’s no different, with Aston Bay once again hosting a triple mile sub 15 degree race.

English rules apply. That means that you’re allowed to wear a Speedo (briefs), one pair of goggles and a silicone swim cap. That’ll keep you warm.

Kite Festival

Motto: Paint the sky with colour.

It’s fun for the whole family in all kinds of shapes suspended, as if by magic, over Kabeljouws beach.

It’s the JBay Kite Festival.

This year sees the festival hosting quad line kite expert, Peter Binsbergen.

Prepare your eyes for a feast of colour in the shape of giant inflatables, facet kites, trains, flow forms, line fillers and Asian kites.

Celebrity Crossover

Favoured by top South African celebs, the Celebrity Crossover pits superstars against superstars.

The Crossover includes golfing, mountain biking and surfing.

It’s one of Bob Skinstad’s favourite events. He’ll be here again this year, seeking to dethrone Raynard Tissink.

The event around which the JBay Winterfest was born
The event around which the JBay Winterfest was born.

This year, the prestigious Corona Open JBay (a WSL event) takes place at Supertubes.

The JBU Supertrials determined that Dale Staples fills the wild card slot for the event.

As always, the globe’s top surfers will turn up to battle for the crown, still held by Mick Fanning, who took revenge on JBay after a run-in with a shark in 2015. (Sorry Mick.)

In conclusion

The JBay Winterfest promises to be one big jawl, with sports and entertainment for everyone.

We can’t wait for you to join us for ten days of winter fun.
