11-year old swims 8 kms to raise funds for sick children

Abriella Bredell, an 11-year old girl from Jeffreys Bay, became the youngest person ever to swim from Robben Island to Cape Town, a distance of 8 kms.

Miss Bredell’s fundraising feat netted her a sum of R158,746, which she gifted to the Red Cross Children’s hospital.

Head of fundraising at the Children’s Hospital Trust, Chantel Cooper, indicated that the funds would add 17 beds to the organisation’s ICU.

Cooper said, “Abriella and all those who have supported her in achieving her goal, and the time and effort she has contributed, will not only make a difference to children who are currently in the hospital, but will continue to support thousands of children in the years to come.

“Abriella is an inspirational young woman and we are extremely proud of her.”
